Affordable Housing Community Replaces Flyers With Fast, Reliable Resident Updates

The Campbell Village provides affordable housing to about 250 residents, including single women, children, and seniors on fixed incomes. For years, staff relied on printed flyers on front doors to announce inspections, maintenance, or community events. This method was inefficient and often unreliable, leaving many residents uninformed. The team needed a solution to save staff time, reduce printing costs, and ensure residents consistently received essential updates.
A Break in Communication
Staff quickly recognized the limits of hand-delivered flyers. Residents didn’t always use their front doors, meaning notices were frequently missed. Urgent events, such as same-day community programs or inspection reminders, were challenging to share on time. As Resident Services Coordinator, Constance Cole explained, “If I received information about a community event happening that same day, I simply didn’t have time to make, print, and distribute flyers, so there were times when I just couldn’t share community information at all.”
Finding a Solution
In August 2010, Campbell Village partnered with One Call Now by Crisis24. Instead of relying on paper, staff could now record a simple voice message and simultaneously deliver it to all residents. Flyers became a supplement rather than the primary method. The change saved money on supplies, reduced the burden on maintenance staff, and gave property managers a faster, more efficient way to keep residents informed.
The Right Call
In the first year, One Call Now helped staff save more than 239 hours by automating more than 14,000 message attempts to 6,300 numbers. But the real impact was resident satisfaction. Reminders for inspections, maintenance, pest control, and community events improved attendance and reduced missed appointments.
“It’s a tremendous resource, and residents are grateful to have the reminders,” Cole said. “It’s like having another staff member.”
